Although small in scale, adornment communicates a large amount of information.Throughout the ages, it has expressed loyalty, conveyed emotions, provided protection, designated royalty, and allowed for creative individuality. I create collections to be worn as a celebration of personal and collective growth, marking unique involvements, observations and attachments to the organic life around us.
The art of making jewelry is my active meditation. Inspired by the limitless beauty found in Nature, each piece is handcrafted using traditional metalsmithing techniques and an intuitive practice involving gentle guidance from the materials. Sterling silver is both strong and pliable, and is the beginning of every piece. My passion is founded in the ritual, and the ceremony continues each time the pieces are worn.
Nestled in the hills of the Driftless Area of Southcentral Wisconsin, I live with my husband and two beautiful children on a 116 acre farm. Growing up in the Southwest made this quite a challenging transition. After almost 10 years of acclimation, I find peace in the the seasons and embrace the colder months as a time to slow down and organize for the faster times that warmer weather brings.
If ever find yourself near the banks of the Wisconsin River near Spring Green, Wisconsin please stop in at Kauss Art. It has been a dream come true to open a brick and mortar where I combine studio and retail.
